Vladimir Ovchinnikov was born in 1941 on Schuchie Ozero station in the Perm Region.
He was formed as an artist at the end of the 1960''s in the so-called ''hermitage group'', which was supervised by M.Shemyakin. As artist and sculptor, Mr Ovchinnikov deals with ancient myths and Christian legends, interpreting them in a way that leaves a narrative impression, an effect of an eternal moment
capable of absolutely unexpected metamorphoses.
Working in Mariinsky (Kirov) Theater under Kustodiev offered Mr Ovchinnikov a true school of professionalism, to develop further during his work in the Hermitage and on church murals. Since the notorious 1964 exhibition in the Hermitage he participated actively in group exhibitions of underground art
in Russia and abroad.
Since 1964 V.Ovchinnikov has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including exhibitions of the painters-nonconformists in the Gaza Palace of Culture (1974) and the ''Nevsky'' Palace of Culture (1975).
