Ruben Zakharyan (1901 - 1993) was born in Tiflis (now Tbilisi), Georgia. In 1921 he entered Tbilisi Painting School at Caucasus Society of Encouragement of Fine Arts (since 1922 - Tbilisi Art Academy), where his teachers were Professors E.E.Lansere, B.A.Fogel, E.M.Tatevosyan. In 1923 he came to Leningrad to join Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. A year later he began to work at the art studio of Petrov-Vodkin in the Institute and he graduated from Repin's Institute (now St. Petersburg Fine Arts Academy) in 1927. Ruben participated in art exhibitions since 1926. He was a Member of the Union of Arists since 1951.
